 Ashtanga Yoga Teacher Training

Claire is delighted to announce that she will be offering a 200hr Ashtanga yoga teacher training in the John Scott lineage commencing Autumn 2019.


This Ashtanga Yoga Teacher Training course is an intensive program designed to give you the knowledge, skills and confidence to start teaching Ashtanga yoga.

Teaching brings much joy and it is this experience that I wish to share; whilst you step onto your own pathway of personal and professional growth. 

I have structured the course over 4 modules with time in between to allow for learnings to settle and questions to arise. Learnings are processed and absorbed through formal study as well as hands on training, mentoring and assisting; giving you the opportunity to put your new learnings into practice and then bring your questions back for further exploration.


Course Structure

During module 1 & 2 we will cover Surya Namaskar, Standing Poses and the first half of the Primary Series.

During modules 3 & 4 we will pick up from Navasana and continue through the Closing Sequence.

Each module will include:

  • Teaching Techniques & Methodology

  • Meditation, Pranayama & Chanting

  • Yoga philosophy

  • Anatomy

Your teacher

Claire Berghorst is the main teacher on the course and will be delivering the primary components. Claire is a long time Ashtanga yoga student and one of John Scott’s senior 500 hr teachers. She has been teaching yoga on a full time basis since 2008, and has completed several teacher trainings both locally and internationally.

For Claire, yoga is an internal exploration of self discovery that should be kind and honest, yet fun. She enjoys finding that perfect balance between strength, flexibility and a steady mind. This balance translates into her own life, where her passion for family, health, wellness and abundance merge.

Claire’s teaching is supportive and adaptable to the individual. She passionately believes in empowering students to develop a nurturing regular practice.

 Philosophy

The philosophy section will be taught by Charlotte Anderson. Charlie has been a practitioner of yoga since her late teens and teaching for the past five years. For Charlie, yoga is a lifelong transformative practice that enables a soulful connection between mind, body and spirit which in turn facilitates joyful, authentic living. 

Her teaching is mindful, infused with yoga philosophy, yet still light and joyful. She encourages students to own their yoga experience, to use their breath to reconnect their minds and body thus developing the strength, balance and freedom that yoga brings.

Charlie holds a 500hr Level 4 Teacher Training Diploma with The British Wheel (tutored by Lyn Core). She will join us for module 2 & 4.

Anatomy

The anatomy section will be delivered through David Keil’s online anatomy course, supported by group discussion and exploration. As the material is laid out step by step and spread out over the duration of the teacher training, retention is better than being overloaded in a single weekend. It allows you to study at your own pace, repeating sections as required as well as bringing them back to the group for further clarification and discussion. You will have full access to the content for 1 year.

Assisting

Learning to teach cannot be confined to the classroom, and for this reason I have added ‘assisting’ as an important element of this course.

Assisting can be either with myself, or your regular Ashtanga yoga teacher. The absolute minimum is 5 hours per module, so 20 hours in total, although I encourage you to do as much as you can.

A typical day will start with a group teaching practice, followed by a break for brunch and then continuing with our learning throughout the afternoon. We will start at approx 7:00am each morning, and finish around 4:00pm.

£1700 for modules 1 & 2

£350 non refundable deposit to secure your place.

Balance due 2 months before the start of module 1, hence 12 August 2019.

Frequenty Asked Questions

What are the entry requirements?

You should have an established Ashtanga yoga practice, be comfortable practising in a Mysore room, know the traditional count as well as the opening and closing chants.

A minimum of 2 years dedicated Ashtanga practice is advised.

Do I have to complete the full 200hrs or can I pick and chose modules?

In order to complete the training and obtain a JSY 200 teacher training certificate (Yoga Allianace US accredited) all 4 modules must be completed.

If you have already completed level 1 with John (equivalent to module 1 & 2) you just need to complete modules 3 & 4.

You are most welcome to complete a sub section of modules for your own enrichment.

How do I apply?

How much additional time do I need to allow for the course?

In addition to the contact training hours, you will need to allow additional time for the following:

Online Anatomy course

The whole course takes approximately 20 hours to complete. This varies based on your pace of learning and how much anatomy knowledge you have before commencing the course.

Assisting

A minimum of 5 hours per module.

Additional reading

A book list will be provided, which will be split into mandatory and recommended.

Teacher training is a journey, your current held patterns may be tested whilst your horizon expands. I encourage you to read, learn and practice with a beginners mind. This is never ending!

Completing your yoga teacher training is just the beginning of a wonderful journey of learning and inquiry.
